Drive By Blogging: Waves

Here comes a super quick blog post... I'm going through the WIPs that I haven't blogged yet and sneaking a few minutes to write a blog post while my toddler (almost two!!!) spends some time with her daddy at the park.

Today's blog post project started as this yarn:

It was a birthday gift from my little sister.  Berroco calls the colour "Dreams." I love aqua.  It was cool to see all the colours in the skein as I wound them into balls.  (You will have to take my word on the colour... it's really hard to capture, in part because of the sheen of the yarn.)

And as I wound them, I knew that I wanted to turn this yarn into a drop stitch scarf.  The pattern is "Shimmer Wave Scarf" by Kate Hiester which is a free pattern on Ravelry.  I used all but a foot or two of yarn on the scarf and it came out seven feet long and six inches wide when relaxed.  The colour changes subtly from row to row showing off the contours of the drop stitch pattern.  


I think this one shows off the colours best, but it's a little fuzzy... it seems I can't win:

FO Friday, Post Holiday Edition

Well, another winter gifting season has come and gone, which means I have hand-knits to show you.  I'm trying something new this year with the blog, as I was such a terrible blogger last year, only typing up four very photo-full entries.  I'm going to aim to (maybe... we'll see how far I actually get) post at least twice a week on Wednesdays and Fridays for WIP (Work in Progress) Wednesdays and FO (Finished Object) Fridays. NO-vember... Moving on...

If there was an award for being an inconsistent blogger, I would win.  My last post was a month ago as I was one week into NaKniSweMo. I think I'm going to add November National Whatever Months to my "I don't" list.  I did get about 16 inches done, which I calculate to be 19,074 stitches.  Not bad for moving in the middle of November, but not exactly a 50,000+ stitch completed sweater. I still have quite a bit to do; It's not close to done by any stretch of the imagination.  But for now it's on hold as I frantically knit Christmas presents.  I read the Yarn Harlot's blog today as I was taking a break from knitting and completely agree with the statement of "I feel like I'm going into this Christmas with no reserves."  I started knitting for this Christmas months ago, and yet I'm still really pushed for time.  (That and my family is Christmas-ing on the 19th, which cuts into knitting days.) I get cranky

Hello (echo, echo, echo...)! I'm not sure if anyone is still following my blog since it's been over two years since I last posted, and if you want two posts you have to go three years back. There are two things in my life that have led to blog silence: 1) small child. Jo is now 5! 2) smart phone. I blogged when I sat at the computer. I do much less  computer sitting since I a) graduated from college, and b) got a smart phone and I don't like composing blogs on my phone. I can't format in the same ways and I don't like that. But here I am, blogging on my phone. Another observation that I have made about myself is actually the thought seed for this blog post. Yesterday I was looking at my current WIPs (that's Works in Progress, Muggles) and I was feeling twitchy. I didn't WANT to work on the monster Jo wanted to give Daddy for Christmas, or the hat I started for Jo, or that project I am fixing for a friend, or that languishing sample knit, or those so
